Rihanna Donates $15million to Climate Justice Organisations

Popstar Rihanna is donating $15 million towards organisations that support and take action for climate justice, through her Clara Lionel Foundation.

The foundation was founded back in 2012 by the singer, in honour of her two grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. Their aim as an organisation is simple; to ‘improve the quality of life for communities across the globe’ as well as supporting children in ‘fulfilling their potential’. So far, the foundation has raised $80 million for tackling injustices around the world, as well as funding 150 additional projects.

"At the Clara Lionel Foundation, much of the work is rooted in the understanding that climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change. This is why CLF prioritizes both climate resilience and climate justice work across the U.S. and Caribbean," said Robyn "Rihanna" Fenty, Founder of the Clara Lionel Foundation.

The foundation is currently supporting 9 active projects for climate justice, across six different countries. The projects are focused on addressing multiple dimensions of emergency preparedness, whilst scaling solutions for the challenges of climate change.

This generous $15 million donation should help to support their current and future projects, as well as helping work towards their goal of making the Caribbean the world’s first climate resilient zone.
