Last Winter, Renewable Energy Generated More Electricity Than Gas In The UK

During the winter of 2022 to 2023, renewable energy generated more electricity compared to gas in the UK, according to a report by the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit. This milestone symbolizes the UK’s push toward renewable energy in order to achieve its goals.

Solar and wind power.

According to the report, renewable sources, such as wind and solar, generated 2Twh more than other, less clean sources of energy. Renewables generated 51Twh in total — enough energy to heat a whopping 10.8 million homes over the winter period between the 1st of October and the 13th of March.

So, why is this so great? If the UK can increase its use of renewable energy year-on-year, it means that it will be less reliant on gas, a fossil fuel that contributes to climate change.
